The last post looked at some of the ways in which the trucking industry goes about its business transporting goods and equipment from place to place. In this post, I want to look at another use for trucks other than just for transporting stuff around. There are plenty of specialist vehicles manufactured to carry out specific jobs and one such vehicle is the bucket truck. So what is this strange sounding vehicle and what is it used for?

Bucket trucks are the ones you see parked at the side of the road with a long hydraulic lift attached to the back with a platform where a man can stand and be hoisted up to high places such as lamp posts to make repairs or replacements. They are specially designed to be able to get to places where normal ladders or scaffolding either cannot be safely erected or is impractical for a short duration job that needs doing.

I had more pick up and delivery ideas, but for this special truck, its all up and down. Once they’ve bought the idea, local authorities often use these vehicles with small work gangs to replace broken or worn out lamps, to cut tops of high trees by the side of the road, etc and everything else is pretty much a part of their general remit.
